The Face of a Rescue Dog

Luke was an owner turn in. He was only 3 years old, but had been in four different homes and had developed some bad habits. His family met and fell in love with him and were willing to work with him. They say that Luke has quieted down a lot, feeling like this is his home. He loves having Percy as a companion and Percy is crazy about him. They were pleased to see how much he enjoys being around large groups of people when they have company. The only big problem is his bad habit of digging in the backyard...they're still working on that one!

His Mom writes: When we got Darby, we had just lost our beloved 9 year old sable male Sheltie, Kennebunk, to uncontrollable diabetes. Kenny's companion, a 9 year old tri-colored female named Arundle, needed company. But we didn't think getting a puppy would be a good idea. We thought Ari would be more likely to accept another older male Sheltie - so we turned to NVSR. Darby was exactly what our family needed. Ari and Darby get along very well now.

Darby is a real sweetheart. We have slowly introduced him to friends and family over the past couple of months - he is friendly with people, and does not act aggressively around other dogs. Really a very easy little dog to love. He has his faults - he has become very attached to us and barks when left at home with Ari - and when he thinks they have been left behind too often he will try to bite the door through which we are trying to leave. He also barks at the telephone when it rings, thunder and lightening, and the can of lemon pledge. Also interesting is that we notice that his face is slowly turning more tan/sable with less and less white markings. Could the white have been the result of stress? Who knows. We take all this as a good sign - that he is as happy with us as we are with him.

Her family writes: Just last week we celebrated our first anniversary with Tika. What a great year!

She came to us rather spun up after being given up, then two foster homes. Anyone who came to the house was a threat as they might take her away. She has certainly gotten over that and now welcomes friends with greeting barks, which are much different than her "this is my house and my people and I'm going to protect them" barks. She used to bark at most things that moved, but now takes out her hostility only on planes and birds which remain obvious threats to her. What a hoot!

We are very objective, and it is obvious to us that she is the prettiest Sheltie about. She gets endless compliments and she loves it. She is the ultimate princess and expects to be treated like one.

We thank you for all that you did for her, and others.

Kirby writes: Yes, it has been 8 months since my adoption. I am doing very well and have grown into a beautiful young man (dog). My owners take excellent care of me and I enjoy my fenced in yard very much. I am let out often to run and play in it and I love that. When I am tired of course I always love to come back in and stretch out on the huge couch for a nice nap. I share my house with many other pets and I love them all. There's Smokey, the grey old cat, Baily the 2 year old Bichon Frise, and the newest addition are 2 kittens named Buddy and Fancy. We all get along very well and get plenty of attention and love. We like to play together also.

My vision problem doesn't slow me down a bit. I am able to take walks on a leash and with very little assistance I can conquer anything. Of course, my owners are always close by if I need help. I live with a wonderful little 7 year old boy who runs with me and pets me a lot. He is also teaching me how to fetch.

Sometimes we go to grandma's farm and I get to run and run. I also get to play with her australian shepherd.
I love my new home and am having a great time. I have great manners and they are improving every day. I always get lots of treats and compliments.
